PKM Walkthroughs from the LYT Alumni
Showcase Power Hour 1
Watch LYT Workshop alumni bravely share their PKM systems with you. There is nothing like seeing a few live PKM walkthroughs to start to wonder why we don't learn from each other like this more often! This power hour features Michael Kluge, Mason Royal, Kara Monroe—and Joshwin Greene with a special demo. If you like screenshares, this hour is for you.
Michael Kluge - In Michael's showcase, he explains how he thinks about new notes in his "zettelkasten," how he reduces self-made pressure to "finish" all notes, and how looking at a tree can offer a holistic picture of his pkm system.
Mason Royal - Mason Royal's homepage serves as a base for organizing different parts of his life, where he explains the ideas and principles he uses to pursue his goals, passions, and identities. He uses Obsidian to make this process easier and more efficient and leverages Dataview to allow for quick and easy reviews of his days, weeks, months, and quarters.
Joshwin Greene will be showcasing a short overview of Co-x3's Digital Gardening Initiative. Besides briefly talking about the initiative, this overview will include the following topics:
- Co-x3, Digital Gardening, and Community Digital Gardening.
- A demo of the creation flow for an essay and how a moderator would accept the piece.
Dr. Kara Monroe will highlight how to leverage auto-updating homepages, use templates, and use automation to leverage Obsidian throughout my day to integrate knowledge management and productivity.
Michael Kluge is a young engineer from Bavaria, Germany. He is a very enthusiastic and open-minded person who enjoys all sorts of activities and often tries to learn too much at once, which has caused him to feel overwhelmed at times. To keep himself grounded and organized, he turned to pkm, or personal knowledge management. During the last year of his studies, while writing his master's thesis in timber construction, Michael took the LYT workshop 8 and has been refining his PKM for about four years now. He has learned to accept that his PKM will always keep evolving and growing, and he is currently content with its state, though he admits to having some complaints.
Mason Royal is a software engineer who has a great passion for music, kettlebells, and expanding his knowledge about the world. He has had past experiences as an accountant and an ESL professor in China. To help him stay organized and prioritize important aspects of his life, he uses Obsidian.
Joshwin Greene is the lead of CO-X3's digital gardening initiative and serves as the initiative's product and technical design head. During the day, Joshwin works as a software developer at Bitwise Industries. He completed his bachelor's in software engineering from the University of California, Irvine, and also completed a UX/UI design immersive at Flatiron School. Joshwin is a digital gardening and personal knowledge management (PKM) enthusiast. Additionally, he actively contributes to open-source projects.
Dr. Kara Monroe is the founder and president of Monarch Strategies, a consulting firm providing expert consulting to higher education organizations nationwide. Before founding Monarch Strategies, Monroe spent 25 years in education where her most recent role was as Provost and Senior Vice President for Student and Academic Experience of Ivy Tech Community College. She enjoys coaching people in various areas, including the use of Obsidian, and specializes in financial coaching. Monroe volunteers with hospice alongside her miniature double doodle, Kona, and dedicates additional volunteer time mentoring young professionals and supporting education, literacy, and animals.
